THE SHOWOFF
The Showoff was the first build where following the plan was definitely not going to work. By then, I'd learned enough to know what I liked, and exactly what I didn't. I loved the bones of the original chandelier design, but wanted something more finished, refined and intentional from every angle. So I reworked it.
I carried the X-frame detail around all four sides, replaced the chain-and-wire suspension with decorative jute-covered electrical cable, added a solid top to conceal the decidedly-not-pretty seven-light hardware, and finished each bulb with its own cage instead of leaving the lights hanging bare. It became my first truly intricate build, and one of the first times I stopped asking whether I could change a plan and started assuming I probably would.
Apparently one wasn't enough, either. I later designed a smaller coordinating pendant for an adjoining space, which can also be made to order. The Showoff isn't exactly interested in blending in.
Made to order. Built for life.
